National Denim Day for the CURE Foundation : A first success for Commonwealth Plywood!

On May 13th, 2014, we celebrated the eighteenth edition of National Denim Day to benefit the CURE Foundation for breast cancer. This day helps raise money and awareness all across Canada.

The employees of Commonwealth Plywood Distribution participated by proudly wearing their jeans for the occasion. Staff of Boucherville, North Bay and Ottawa branches, donated an amount of $185 to the CURE Foundation.

A special thank you to all of our participating employees; your support is appreciated!

What is National Denim Day?

In May 1997, the CURE Foundation inaugurated National Denim Day, its main fundraiser. This event is held annually on the Tuesday following Mother’s Day. Businesses, organizations and institutions across Canada are encouraged to allow employees, members and/or students to wear denim and receive CURE’s ‘pink flower’ ribbon in exchange for a suggested $5 donation.

Where does the money go?

Because of the generosity of the many donors who have contributed to the CURE Foundation for breast cancer, many Canadian hospitals mentioned in this section of our website were able to purchase state-of-the-art equipment that provides a quicker and more precise procedure in the detection and treatments of breast cancer as well as easier biopsy procedures. CURE is proud to have been able to contribute to the improvement of their breast cancer centres.

In the field of research, CURE has lent its financial support to organizations, universities and projects to aid in many areas of breast cancer research, including genetics.

The CURE Foundation also supports projects and community programs that promote breast cancer awareness and education.
